{Recipes}: Salt+Sugar Can’t Be Beat

YUM. YUM. YUM. DELISH.

You ever miss being a kid? Me too. But sometimes my adult taste still kicks in and I want my classic treats with a twist.

How about Salted Browned Butter Rice Krispy Treats? I had you at How, right?

I made these delicious bites a long time ago and they were so simple and so much better than the original (HOW CAN THAT BE?!). I had a craving to bake something simple last night and of course I got them from Smitten Kitchen.

Salted Browned Butter Rice Crispy Treats

  • 1 stick unsalted butter
  • 1 bag mini marshmallows
  • 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt (I used my fancy Fluer De Sel salt I use for my caramels)
  • 6 cups Rice Crispy Cereal (I used the store brand-GASP!)
  • Optional: Milk-for all the leftover cereal

Coat a 13×9 pan with baking spray. Get a giant pot and on medium-low heat melt the fatty butter using a HEAT proof spatula. DO NOT WALK AWAY. Keep heating the butter-it will foam and eventually start to turn brown and smell nutty-about 3 min or so I’d say once the butter has melted.

Turn the heat off and add the bag of marshmallows and stir till melted and smooth. I used a 10.5 oz bag even the the original recipe calls for 10 oz, more marshmallows isn’t a bad thing!

Add the cereal and salt and mix the whole thing up. Put into the pan and spread with the spatula. Let it cool slightly and take a sample-so good when its all warm and gooey! Once cool, cut into small squares and eat! Or bring to the office and share!

YUM!

  1. Ok SO weird because I saw these on a blog today (can’t remember which one) and I thought they looked amazing! The blog said they were modified from Smitten Kitchen 🙂
