{Pet Peeves}: Stress Balls

Pet peeve=stress. Stress ball=pet peeve and increase in stress.

I mean look at that evil happy face staring you in the face saying I am gonna make you so stressed out!

Now why is a stress ball my pet peeve? Here’s the deal, when I am stressed I am totally down with the idea of squeezing the daylights out of something. Like have you ever seen one of those homemade stress balls with flour or sugar in a balloon? Those are great! Easy to squeeze…

The promotional rubber foam ones though? THEY ARE AS HARD AS A DINOSAUR ROCK! If I am already stressed then how is squeezing a ball made of stone helping me relax?! I mean I had to use TWO hands. TWO. And even then I started to sweat and my blood pressure rose. You know what helped though, throwing that mountain mass at a wall!

Am I the only one on this??

{The List}: Zippity Doo Dah

Prior (I apologize this occurred in January of 2011!) to my ah-ha moment to start a blog, my boyfriend and I had spent a year talking about going on an all inclusive vacation to Cancun. Why this of all things?!

We had been on a trip to visit his family in Louisiana and a family member had said how relaxing it was and all you can DRINK! We were hooked to say the least. So that began our dream of sunshine…

I’ve always said I wanted to zip line through the jungle. I always said it’s on my bucket list. Yet, this list was only in my head so began the blog idea (long story)…

And that leads us to crossing off #5: Zip line through the jungle.

Zip line through the jungle, upside down too!

Our adventure with Selvatica started bright and early with them picking us up at our hotel. Luis got the party rolling for the hour drive into the jungle with a Phil Collins  CD playing all of his hits!

At the zip line site they of course had the tourist parrot photo opportunity! They had safety instructions with death jokes included and an army truck ride through the jungle!

Here is Brad and I completing the 12 or more zip lines throughout the canopy of the jungle! After going upside down we bought shirts that said ‘I did it upside down!” with a tree and silhouette of a zip liner! They kept calling me “Kelly not lazy. Kelly CRAZY!” I was surprisingly not afraid and had so much fun! I think because with zip lining you don’t feel like you are free falling which is scarier to me.

Speaking of free falling, I was feeling overly confident after all the fun zipping through the jungle when they surprised us with a Tarzan opportunity! I was all about it until I got to the top and he counted to three and I didn’t’ move. So he counted again and LITERALLY pushed me off. I think I screamed. Or peed. I also lost a shoe briefly.

Brad the daredevil he is jumped off backwards. But he’s tall so it isn’t a long drop for him…

Following all of our hard work at the top of the trees we headed to a natural cenote for a refreshing swim after and it included zip lines into the water! They also provided us with a delicious lunch and beer where we watched the video of the day with our group. This was thrilling and also the tour guides were so funny and safe! They knew are names and we got to know more people in our group too. I would highly suggest this to anyone looking for an adventure on their relaxing vacation. I mean beach, drink, pool, drink, dance, drink, shop, drink and zip line all in one trip?! How cool is that.

I’m actually glad I am posting this a year later because it reminds me of the great time we had together! I am sad though that we didn’t book one this year, but hey it is getting cold here and maybe we could have a big trip in April…

What is your greatest adventure?

{Things I Want}: If I had Time and Money

It’s been a while since I posted a things I want RIGHT NOW post and what better than to share things I want to do or have if I had the time or money! Right. Now.

1. With the forecast of snow I instantly want time to knit up a cozy cowl to keep me warm and cute!

2. If I had time I’d make this, if I had money I’d buy it and if I had space it’d already be in my room.

3. If I had time I’d be all over making my own cute headbands like this one! If I had money, I’d just buy it.4. I WILL find the time to make these. I have been eye flirting with this pattern for a long time.

5. If I had more time I would do more yoga and if I had more money I would buy this to wear. Every. Day.6. But do you know what I end up doing when I don’t have time or money? I go to Target and this is so true…What do you want right now if you had time or money??

PS can we reflect on the lack of color of the things I posted?? WAH?! Ha ha.

{Crafts}: Knit Baby Viking Hat

OMGEEEEE!!! Right?! I died.

Since I am a Viking Alum and so is my friend who has a two year old boy I figured this hat was too perfect for him-in hopes that he follows the Viking path to college!

I can’t take credit for this pattern because I found it here at Knit for Your Life. I did alter the length of the horns and didn’t use stuffing in them if you wondered! I can’t wait to make a whole fleet of these for all my college friends for when they have kids and also add braids to the ones for girls! If I was to make this smaller for a child rather than toddler I would also suggest adding ear flaps with a chin tie.

Gotta go make one in my size now…

{Books}: 2012 Reading Challenge

Although my only book related List item is #3: write a book, which would be EPIC and of course a New York Best Seller, I love to read. I mean LOVE as much as I love wine, sleep, and sugar. As a young kiddo I would bring stacks of books to bed each night and when I was finished stuff them under my bed. Every week my Dad made me clean out all the books and put them back because there were so many!

In college like most people I know who love reading, take a break. Not from reading, but the ENJOYING it part. My reading life turned into thick chemistry textbooks, human anatomy study guides, and highlighter filled health binders. It took me about two years after college to pick up a book for joy. I believe I read a few all around the same time, A Million Little Pieces was one of them and I can’t remember the others. From that point on though I began to spend all my time and money go to the library and check out books to save money!

Over the past few years I have enjoyed reading tons of books in my book club-WNDC! We are a secret society, but we have a blog with all the books we have read. I typically keep track of what I am reading in addition on goodreads. On my recent trek over there I noticed the 2012 Reading Challenge and thought I’d give it a shot! I wasn’t sure what I typically read a year so I figured 20 was a good goal to set at not quite 2 books a month.

I hope to share some of my favorite books with you during this challenge and feel free to challenge yourself as well or even better offer me book recommendations!

I’m starting book two this week-The Sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes!

Post Script: I can’t count this towards my goal because I read them last month, but GO READ ALL OF THE HUNGER GAMES SERIES. NOW. BANANAS.

{The List}: A Gator!

Well, with the new year here and my blogging and keeping up with laundry not working out I figured what better way to celebrate 2011 but finally adding some bucket list items on here!! So let’s go with a fear inducing one and talk about #114: Hold a scary creature!

Since the idea of holding a snake is more terrifying to me than a gator I took an opportunity when I was in Alabama visiting Gulf Shores to stop at a swamp alligator farm that is famous for Captain Crunch the alligator with the strongest bite!

Luckily Captain Crunch is too big to hold! The place was pretty empty since when I was there it was their Winter season and that worked well for me since the guy carrying around the gator had said the cold weather makes the gators calm! When we saw him holding this I knew I had to ask to hold it!

We had our photo op with the gator and then the guy missing a few fingers took him back and took the tape off!

Talk about jaws! This was much more fun than scary for me but I think it is because the tape was protecting me from the jaws of death!

What is the scariest creature you have held?
