{The List}: If It Ain’t Broke…

Then break it! Well, never though this would happen, but since it did…I added it to the list! #137: Break a bone!

This is so ridiculous…Last July in my effort to fulfill running a race on my bucket list I started training. Week three on mile 2 I thought I had stepped on a sharp rock and when it turned out not to be a rock I limped home figuring I pulled a muscle in my big toe or ball of my foot. It swelled and bruised so I stayed off it for two weeks and iced it. I kept doing yoga three times a week, stopped running and only walked…

…for eight months. Finally my co-worker asked me to join a rec soccer team and I said ‘yeah, let me just get my foot looked at first.’ Famous last words.

I had x-rays and an MRI done-I was told it was a stress fracture. Then I went to the mecca of broken body parts-Harborview Medical Center-and had another set of x-rays that determined I had COMPLETELY fractured my sesamoid bone. WTF is that?!

Not my x-ray, but that’s what mine looked like and hey, also turns out Anthony Kedis of RHCP also had this same break but had SURGERY! (please don’t let me add that to my list!)

So as you can see from the photo at the top I’m trying to make my walking boot look like my other boot, but there’s no disguising that monster! I have about two more weeks until my next set of x-rays and then that determines either I’m healed, I need the boot longer or DOOMS DAY.

Seriously. Lame. Why couldn’t I have broken my left pinky finger instead?? Now I have to wear socks and I hate socks.

Have you broken a bone? What was the best and worst part?

{The List}: The Ride of a Lifetime

I have been gearing up for this forever! The last few years of living on top of this ginormous hill and having only a few snowy chances and not being prepared, I have finally completed the list #138: Sled down Queen Anne Hill!

This year I prepped with new snow pants, boots and for Christmas Brad and I received the gift of magical sleds!!! All I needed was a snow storm and finally this January MLK Jr. (yeah, I know it’s March) gifted me with a week of snow days and plenty of ice to have some sledding fun down the death trap of a hill.

With the snow falling we had to grab some shades. The hill was like a community party with neighbors talking to each other and hurling themselves down the hill! Here’s some video from King 5 which we didn’t make it on air but some of the other cray cray’s did and it gives you an idea of how intense people get about the blizzard we had, I mean snowflakes.

After walking and sledding for hours we tried out the side streets too and even pulled our grocery’s home in a sled too! I would say I can’t wait for more snow, but I am so ready for Spring and in the next post you’ll know why I’m not into sledding anytime soon…

Do you like sledding? what’s your favorite snow sport?

{Things I Want}: Or More Like Things I Love About MARCH!

Let’s begin right away…

1. GIRL SCOUT COOKIES GO ON SALE. Love them all but ideally in this order 1. Samoa’s 2. Tagalongs 3. Thin mints 4. Do Si Dos 5. all the others

I used to be in girl scouts and loved selling cookies, because besides taking peoples money they got the best gift on Earth! Oh by the way check out my recipes for homemade samoa’s!

2. March Madness

Okay. In college this was based mainly on the hot college guys playing ball, but now its also all about the BRACKET. I love to predict and play against friends and of course win. Who will be in the sweet 16??

3. It is a month until my birthday MONTH. Not day. Month!

4. On top of it being the countdown to my birth, there’s this great holiday devoted to my Irishness…A little thing called St. Paddy’s Day! Beer and potatoes?! Where can it go wrong? (oh yeah after about midnight…)

5. HUNGER GAMES MOVIE! I’ve already got serious plans and tickets.

6. I also have a massage scheduled, a Stella and Dot party to attend, a camp for kids I volunteer for kick-off, a book club party night, a good friend Anna in town, and a pop trivia night! BOO YAH HEY HEY! I LOVE MARCH!

What do you love about March that I am missing???

{Recipes}: Belated Valentine’s Day Treat

I know this is belated like most of my blog life, but these cookies were so easy and yummy that I’d suggest making them for any holiday or loved one! (If you can’t tell by my AMAH-ZING photo skills, those are cut in hearts, sprinkled with powdered sugar and on a pink plate! BOO YAH!)

Red Velvet Crinkle Cookies from Two Peas and Their Pod

  • 1 box red velvet cake mix
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • Powdered sugar
  • Heart shaped cookie cutter

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a large bowl, combine cake mix and flour. Mix together cake mix, flour, eggs, oil and vanilla. Mix until smooth. Take about 1 tablespoon of cookie dough and form into a ball.  Place cookie dough balls on prepared baking sheet. Bake for 10 minutes, or until edges are set and cookies begin to crack.

Let cookies cool and then cut into hearts. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. Eat the cookie scraps, and give the rest away!

Happy Heart Day before February is OVER! Now go make these green some how for St. Patty’s Day!

{Things I Want}: The Hunger Games

I know. I know. I sound like a preteen girl in love with a boy band, but can we all agree that the Hunger Games bandwagon is a wagon we all want to be on?!

If you are clueless to what I am talking about you live under a rock and must go read 1. The Hunger Games 2. Catching Fire and 3. Mockingjay all by Suzanne Collins and then like me start counting down the days until the movie is released in March.

Now to hold me and all you other nerdy nerds over until the movie…Right. Now.

1. Jewelry. Lots of jewelry.

2. Fun arrow inspired items

3. A Hunger Games bag to carry the books in…

4. By the way everyone is reading The Hunger Games…

5. Send your Valentine a Hunger Games inspired card

6. Recipes from the books?! WOAH! Don’t know if I can go that far, but maybe I’ll at least make cupcakes…

7. And when the time comes for the movie, you could wear some of this!

I’m sure my addicted nail polish self will buy one of these polishes…

May the odds be ever in your favor!!

Are you on the bandwagon with me?

{Pet Peeves}: Stress Balls

Pet peeve=stress. Stress ball=pet peeve and increase in stress.

I mean look at that evil happy face staring you in the face saying I am gonna make you so stressed out!

Now why is a stress ball my pet peeve? Here’s the deal, when I am stressed I am totally down with the idea of squeezing the daylights out of something. Like have you ever seen one of those homemade stress balls with flour or sugar in a balloon? Those are great! Easy to squeeze…

The promotional rubber foam ones though? THEY ARE AS HARD AS A DINOSAUR ROCK! If I am already stressed then how is squeezing a ball made of stone helping me relax?! I mean I had to use TWO hands. TWO. And even then I started to sweat and my blood pressure rose. You know what helped though, throwing that mountain mass at a wall!

Am I the only one on this??

{The List}: Zippity Doo Dah

Prior (I apologize this occurred in January of 2011!) to my ah-ha moment to start a blog, my boyfriend and I had spent a year talking about going on an all inclusive vacation to Cancun. Why this of all things?!

We had been on a trip to visit his family in Louisiana and a family member had said how relaxing it was and all you can DRINK! We were hooked to say the least. So that began our dream of sunshine…

I’ve always said I wanted to zip line through the jungle. I always said it’s on my bucket list. Yet, this list was only in my head so began the blog idea (long story)…

And that leads us to crossing off #5: Zip line through the jungle.

Zip line through the jungle, upside down too!

Our adventure with Selvatica started bright and early with them picking us up at our hotel. Luis got the party rolling for the hour drive into the jungle with a Phil Collins  CD playing all of his hits!

At the zip line site they of course had the tourist parrot photo opportunity! They had safety instructions with death jokes included and an army truck ride through the jungle!

Here is Brad and I completing the 12 or more zip lines throughout the canopy of the jungle! After going upside down we bought shirts that said ‘I did it upside down!” with a tree and silhouette of a zip liner! They kept calling me “Kelly not lazy. Kelly CRAZY!” I was surprisingly not afraid and had so much fun! I think because with zip lining you don’t feel like you are free falling which is scarier to me.

Speaking of free falling, I was feeling overly confident after all the fun zipping through the jungle when they surprised us with a Tarzan opportunity! I was all about it until I got to the top and he counted to three and I didn’t’ move. So he counted again and LITERALLY pushed me off. I think I screamed. Or peed. I also lost a shoe briefly.

Brad the daredevil he is jumped off backwards. But he’s tall so it isn’t a long drop for him…

Following all of our hard work at the top of the trees we headed to a natural cenote for a refreshing swim after and it included zip lines into the water! They also provided us with a delicious lunch and beer where we watched the video of the day with our group. This was thrilling and also the tour guides were so funny and safe! They knew are names and we got to know more people in our group too. I would highly suggest this to anyone looking for an adventure on their relaxing vacation. I mean beach, drink, pool, drink, dance, drink, shop, drink and zip line all in one trip?! How cool is that.

I’m actually glad I am posting this a year later because it reminds me of the great time we had together! I am sad though that we didn’t book one this year, but hey it is getting cold here and maybe we could have a big trip in April…

What is your greatest adventure?
