{Crafts}: First Class Retirement Party Fringe Streamers

To follow up from project #1 and project #2 for my dad’s airplane themed retirement party I have another hanging party decoration for you!

Project #3: Fringe Streamers from Oh Happy Day

Tools

  • Crepe paper sheets in choice of colors-I found these at Paper Zone
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Amazing tutorial from Oh Happy Day

  • Cut the folded crepe paper into 2 to 3 inch pieces
  • On the long side (not folded) cut thin strips about 1” long on one side
  • Repeat this fringe look on the other side making sure to leave space in the middle and not cut all the way through
  • Unravel by loosening up the fringe part and then unrolling. I found this was helpful to ‘ruffle’ it up because the fringe stuck together when I had cut it
  • Hang all over! I used these outside for the canopy on two sides
  • And at the door leading everyone outside to the party!

Do know that scissors with comfort grips would be nice as my hand was killing me after all the cutting! There are so many color variations and fun ways to use this simple craft to decorate!

8/4: Eighty-Four on August 4th

Happy eighty four day! As silly as this whole post is going to sound, trust me you will want to celebrate this day every year too!

Back in high school were this all began, my friends and I (we were all weird in high school okay!?) would refer to anything that was old as 84 years old. For example: Your shoes are like 84 years old!

Eighty-four also happens to be my favorite number. I also want to live to at least be 84. Shortly after realizing my obsession liking of the number 84, my friends and I decided to declare August 4th as Kelly’s ultimate celebration of all things related to 84 Eighty Four Day!

(Side note: I found this photo and now want to drive on 84 on 8/4)

So how does one celebrate Eighty Four Day?

  • Drink 8 40’s at 8:40 am/pm on 84th Street (never been done…yet)
  • In college I went to visit my friends in San Fran and they surprised me and took me to a bar that had ‘1984’ night!!!!
  • Buy something for $8.40
  • Make a cake with an 84 candle
  • Throw a 1984 or 1884 themed party
  • Anything related to using the numbers 8 and 4!

This year I hope the weather is 84 degrees (but really I prefer 74 degrees)!  I love my friends because many of them will actually tell me Happy 8/4 day (thanks for humoring me)! Because really it’s not just a day for me, but for everybody! So take a moment today and celebrate me YOU!

Happy Eighty Four Day!!

After entering a bunch of contests on different blogs and not winning anything I have finally won something and can check off #107!

I have been continuing to play bingo here and there and this last Friday finally I won!

I was ecstatic and couldn’t believe it! Unfortunately, multiple had also yelled bingo…

which means I along won $6. Wah wah. But I am so glad to have finally won and hope to one day win a special game and take home half the pot!!

It is official. I am addicted to bingo and to winning.

{Crafts}: First Class Ticket to Retirement Banner

I am excited to continue with sharing my Dad’s airplane/travel themed retirement party crafts with you! Project #1 was the boarding pass invitations and now for project #2!

Project #2: Personalized Congratulations Travel Theme Banner

Tools

  • Paper cutter
  • Red, white and blue card stock 8 1/2 x 11 (you will need half of the amount of letters you have)
  • Decorative 12 x 12 paper (I used map like paper)
  • Carbon tracing paper
  • Black felt pen and ball point pen
  • Glue stick or rubber cement
  • Exact-o knife
  • Ribbon

Instructions

  • Using Microsoft Word create block letters fitting 2 per 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper spelling what you would like on the banner-Congrats, Happy Retirement, etc.

  • Using trace paper, trace letter onto the back of the travel themed paper. Make sure this is the reverse image of the letter as you are doing it on the back of the printed paper.
  • Get as many traced letters on to each piece of paper.
  • Cut out all of the traced letters. For your background paper cut each in half so it measures 8 1/2 by 5 1/2.
  • Glue each letter to the back ground paper and let dry completely.
  • Using a hole punch-I chose a two prong one for the ribbon to go through-punch two holes on the top corners of the background paper.
  • String all of the letters to spell your message and hang the banner! I had two words so I tied the ribbon in a bow in between the words.Congrats to a first class retiree!

Get tracing!
