{Things I Want}: Beauty Products I Love

I know I did a post about beauty products I want but let’s talk about the ones I have and recommend! I am obsessed with…Urban Decay’s Naked Eyeshadow Palette so much I bought Naked 2!!! Some many great shades and great for day to night and traveling.

These bad boys are expensive but I got two small ones free from Sephora for my birthday gift for being a Beauty Insider! I have the Fresh Sugar Rose and really like how it tints and conditions your lips and has a great metal screw on lid (I also got one in my first birchbox!) I like the Fresh Brown Sugar too and am so excited to try the Plum and new Coral down the line too.

I love BareMinerals Prime Time Foundation Primer! It is a clear smooth and silky primer I use every day before putting on my BareMinerals foundation. It isn’t oily and a little goes a long way!

My friend Amy told me about this scent called flowerbomb and I can’t get enough! It is perfect for spring and summer and not too over powering to wear to work or on a hot date!

I used to have to jumble through a makeup bag but now I use a bunch of different vintage glasses, tea cups and other cups to store my makeup brushes, eyeliner and misc items. Cute and practical!

and then there is my monthly Birchbox surprises! I love getting introduced to new beauty products and getting stuff in the mail! Check out my post about my first Birchbox here!

What are your must have beauty products that I should try too??

Crawfish Season!

First my apologizes. I am so busy enjoying life and crawfish that I have semi neglected this blog. Go get ‘er self some craw daddies soon! Brad and I joined two of our pals Jer and Kelly for a good ‘ol fashioned crawfish boil at Marcela’s in Pioneer Square.

Run out and go get some before the season is over in June!

We each got a different Abita-I love purple haze, it has raspberries in it!

The crawfish was almost as good as when I’ve had it in Louisiana! I highly recommend this place for the food, the service and the atmosphere! Next time I’ll make sure to try a hurricane too!

We easily finished 6 lbs of crawfish, a bunch of potatoes, and a full corn on the cob each! We also had bread pudding-good and the pecan pie-EXCELLENT! I usually don’t like pecan pie at all, but this one was the best I’ve had! Seriously. Serious.

I prefer shrimp boils, but it’s always fun to do any kind of seafood boil and getting messy!

Do you like crawfish and if you do, do you suck the heads?? I’m still unsure about how I feel about that!

{Crafts}: Tee Shirt Scarf

I can’t take credit for this awesomeness, but I received a great gift the other day from my friend Megan. She made this t-shirt scarf that she has a how to on her blog to make!

You can wear it several ways and she gave me grey since she knows me too well! Go check it out at her blog and then tell her how awesome she is for giving me one just because!

PS I love ya Megs!!

Birthday Beachweekend

I am old. Old balls.

I spent a great weekend celebrating the start of my birthday month! Oh wait. You didn’t know? I celebrate my birthday for like an entire MONTH. I love birthdays. People should celebrate each other as much as possible.

I started the weekend by treating myself to losing $5 in the mega millions. One day. One day I will have #richpeopleproblems.

Since Brad had a bachelor party in Vegas, I had a beach weekend with a few girlfriends in Whidbey at Holly’s (I have known her basically my entire life! How cool.) and that was my sunset on the drive which the picture does NOT do justice.

My other AMAZING friend Kelly made cupcakes. WHOA. Not only does she know me too well, but these were hands down Ah-mazing. MO-Freakin-JITIO. With rum and mint and lime and SUGAR. And look how pretty they are!

Then I made a giant thing of limeade/vodka/corona DRANK. We had a fiesta.

Sarah made awesome Guac and homemade chips and Lauren died. Literally. Oh did you know I am a doctor and can diagnose bruised ribs? Well I diagnosed her and now you can call me Dr. K.

Then Lauren blew my mind and MADE me this framed Hunger Games shout out cross stitch. SWOON! I am promptly placing it on my desk at work since my co-workers and I talk about the Hunger Games basically daily. (I am now realizing I never did a post about the movie after my Things I Want post, but the only thing to say is if you haven’t seen it or read it don’t talk to me. Meh.)

Then Kelly who just blew my mind with the mojitio cupcakes gave me this! She knows I like to print or take recipes out of magazines and this is a changeable magnetic recipe holder with cupcake magnets! So cool! SHE MADE IT. My friends are too crafty.

Then I had the Sunday Fried Chicken dinner at Brave Horse Tavern with some buddies and then took Monday off because it was my ACTUAL birthday no one should work.

Brad and I spent the day at my favorite bakery, my favorite park and CANLIS. Yum. Oh and not done yet. Then the next day my co-workers and I had a Costco Hot Dog lunch- $1.64! A dog and a drink! Add a dollar and you can get a CHURRO! Love Costco.

It’s only week one of birthday month. What else can I pack in?! Thoughts?

Antiques and Anacortes

A few weeks ago my friends and I went up to Anacortes for a antique adventure (seriously check out that link because every time I think about ANTIQUES I think of this video, haha!)! I went with Holly, Lauren and Megan (also bloggers! Aqua Elephant, Diary of this Girl, and Elle Hey No you can check out their finds at the links!)

I was able to snag the third Pyrex bowl in a set I have been looking for…now all I need is the small blue one!

And Holly this past weekend saw this for me!

So I am well on my way with the snowflake print collection!

I also scored when I found the most amazing depression glass cake plates-all three tiered!!

So beautiful and I can’t wait to use them for desserts or apps or whatever I can!

I can’t wait to go shopping more with these girls!

Do you have any cool antique shops or cities you go??

{Recipes}: Lemon Drop Martini

A few sips of this delish treat and you are three sheets to the wind. Wait is that the saying? What does that even mean?!

Anyway…I love citrus drinks! This will be perfect for the soon to be sunny rainy Spring days.

Lemon Drop Martini adapted from drinks mixer

Ingredients

  • 1/2 oz fresh squeezed lemon juice
  • 1/2 oz citrus vodka
  • 1 teaspoon baker’s sugar or ultra fine sugar
  • lemon peel for garnish

Using a zest tool make a strip of lemon peel as garnish for later. Squeeze the lemons and measure out lemon juice. Add ice, lemon juice, sugar and vodka to a cocktail shaker and shake vigorously. In a martini glass run a lemon wedge on the lip and dip in sugar to make a sugared rim. Strain drink mixture into the martini glass and garnish. Sip and enjoy!

What is one of your favorite cocktails? Mine is a Moscow Mule, Lemon Drop, Vodka Gimlet or a bottle of champagne.

Cheers!

Birchbox

Have you heard about Birchbox? My co-worker told me about it and I was instantly excited when I heard 1. mini things 2. beauty things and 3. getting mail!

Birchbox offers a variety of options, I chose a monthly subscription, like a magazine! Each month you get mailed a beautiful box (which I’m going to need some cool ideas to use these boxes for!) filled with an assortment of different products. This month I got Miss Cherie perfume-which I love already, Fresh Sugar tinted lip treatment-again one I love, a twistband hair tie which I’ve been wanting to try, a FULL SIZE Essie glitter nail polish which I can’t wait to try, $10 off Modcloth, and a new product I haven’t tried before that hydrates your hair!

Anyway, I’m hooked and really excited to try out the products and when you review products it gets you points towards buying full size products on the website. Okay what else do you need to know….GO CHECK IT OUT HERE!

{The List}: If It Ain’t Broke…

Then break it! Well, never though this would happen, but since it did…I added it to the list! #137: Break a bone!

This is so ridiculous…Last July in my effort to fulfill running a race on my bucket list I started training. Week three on mile 2 I thought I had stepped on a sharp rock and when it turned out not to be a rock I limped home figuring I pulled a muscle in my big toe or ball of my foot. It swelled and bruised so I stayed off it for two weeks and iced it. I kept doing yoga three times a week, stopped running and only walked…

…for eight months. Finally my co-worker asked me to join a rec soccer team and I said ‘yeah, let me just get my foot looked at first.’ Famous last words.

I had x-rays and an MRI done-I was told it was a stress fracture. Then I went to the mecca of broken body parts-Harborview Medical Center-and had another set of x-rays that determined I had COMPLETELY fractured my sesamoid bone. WTF is that?!

Not my x-ray, but that’s what mine looked like and hey, also turns out Anthony Kedis of RHCP also had this same break but had SURGERY! (please don’t let me add that to my list!)

So as you can see from the photo at the top I’m trying to make my walking boot look like my other boot, but there’s no disguising that monster! I have about two more weeks until my next set of x-rays and then that determines either I’m healed, I need the boot longer or DOOMS DAY.

Seriously. Lame. Why couldn’t I have broken my left pinky finger instead?? Now I have to wear socks and I hate socks.

Have you broken a bone? What was the best and worst part?

{The List}: The Ride of a Lifetime

I have been gearing up for this forever! The last few years of living on top of this ginormous hill and having only a few snowy chances and not being prepared, I have finally completed the list #138: Sled down Queen Anne Hill!

This year I prepped with new snow pants, boots and for Christmas Brad and I received the gift of magical sleds!!! All I needed was a snow storm and finally this January MLK Jr. (yeah, I know it’s March) gifted me with a week of snow days and plenty of ice to have some sledding fun down the death trap of a hill.

With the snow falling we had to grab some shades. The hill was like a community party with neighbors talking to each other and hurling themselves down the hill! Here’s some video from King 5 which we didn’t make it on air but some of the other cray cray’s did and it gives you an idea of how intense people get about the blizzard we had, I mean snowflakes.

After walking and sledding for hours we tried out the side streets too and even pulled our grocery’s home in a sled too! I would say I can’t wait for more snow, but I am so ready for Spring and in the next post you’ll know why I’m not into sledding anytime soon…

Do you like sledding? what’s your favorite snow sport?

{Things I Want}: Or More Like Things I Love About MARCH!

Let’s begin right away…

1. GIRL SCOUT COOKIES GO ON SALE. Love them all but ideally in this order 1. Samoa’s 2. Tagalongs 3. Thin mints 4. Do Si Dos 5. all the others

I used to be in girl scouts and loved selling cookies, because besides taking peoples money they got the best gift on Earth! Oh by the way check out my recipes for homemade samoa’s!

2. March Madness

Okay. In college this was based mainly on the hot college guys playing ball, but now its also all about the BRACKET. I love to predict and play against friends and of course win. Who will be in the sweet 16??

3. It is a month until my birthday MONTH. Not day. Month!

4. On top of it being the countdown to my birth, there’s this great holiday devoted to my Irishness…A little thing called St. Paddy’s Day! Beer and potatoes?! Where can it go wrong? (oh yeah after about midnight…)

5. HUNGER GAMES MOVIE! I’ve already got serious plans and tickets.

6. I also have a massage scheduled, a Stella and Dot party to attend, a camp for kids I volunteer for kick-off, a book club party night, a good friend Anna in town, and a pop trivia night! BOO YAH HEY HEY! I LOVE MARCH!

What do you love about March that I am missing???
